I recommend a well-known Chinese book titled The Ordinary World to you. The book was written by a famous Chinese writer, Lu Yao. It centers on the life and destinies of three families of Sun, Tian and Jin in a village. It pictures the tough process of building up a better and wealthier life during the very beginning of reform and openness in China.
